Owned by Ian and Corynn Bean, this surf shop has it all located just a few hundred yards to the beach. Frijoles Locos has a wide variety of surf boards for rent for all skill types. If you’re looking to buy a board here, they have a wide range as well from longboards, funboards, shortboards, fish boards, skim boards, boogie boards, soft tops and stand up paddle boards used and new! This shop contains a great collection of local merchandise as well as imported merchandise and apparel. Surf lessons are provided as well.

In addition to the surf shop, Frijoles Locos offers spa services. So for those of you looking for the perfect massage or body treatment this is a great place to go to. They also provide their services at the comfort of your hotel room or vacation rental.

Matos Surf Shop

Matos Surf shop in Playa Grande was founded by Marcelo Matos from Uruguay in the mid 2000’s. The surf shop itself is an easy landmark in Playa Grande as you can see by the barreling right wave located in front of the shop. Tourists seem to love to take photos of themselves getting shacked in this barrel. This surf shop contains a wide variety of boogie boards, surf boards used and new for sale and for rent. Surf lessons are provided as well as board repair. The shop also carries a good selection of imported and local apparel/merchandise.

Another great service that Marcelo provides is professional photography (Matos Films). Marcelo is known for his photography around town as he is usually taking photos of surfers out at the main peak here in Grande. If you surf the main peak, chances are he will have some photos of you ripping it up or looking like a kook. Regardless, you can view photos of the day or week in his shop in the evening.

Mini Mop Surf Shop

You can't miss Mini Mop Surf Shop on the way into Playa Grande just after you take the left in Matapalo and before the bridge. Owner "Mini Mop" Fonseca has been charging the waves of Playa Grande since his youth. This cool shop is full service with very competitive pricing on board rentals and for sale boards. They are experts at ding repair as well. Mini Mop carries both fiberglass and epoxies.

In addition to surf gear, Mini Mop Surf Shop offers surf tours and lessons at the great surf breaks of the area: Marbella, Junquillal, Playa Negra, Avellanas, Langosta, Witches Rock, Ollie's Point and even Nicaragua.
